1748-1750 UNITED NATIONS - We the peoples...

CHARTER OF THE UNITED NATIONS
PREAMBLE

WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED

• to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and
• to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and
• to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and
• to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,

AND FOR THESE ENDS

• to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and
• to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, and
• to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and
• to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples,

HAVE RESOLVED TO COMBINE OUR EFFORTS TO ACCOMPLISH THESE AIMS

Accordingly, our respective Governments, through representatives assembled in the city of San Francisco, who have exhibited their full powers found to be in good and due form, have agreed to the present Charter of the United Nations and do hereby establish an international organization to be known as the United Nations.

About the stamps
On the postcard 1748 


The first two stamps is part of the series issued on October 23, 2014 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of ASDA (American Stamp Dealers Association). The sheet is featuring ten stamps in US$ 1.15 denomination and was designed by Rorie Katz (United Nations):
• 1934 ASDA Early Postage Stamp
• President Franklin D. Roosevelt - customer of ASDA dealer
• 1956 ASDA New York show
• First ASDA National Fall Show in 1949
• 1959 ASDA New York show - It's on the postcard 2609
• Gimbels, World Famous Department store, Nassau St, New York, ASDA meeting in 1935
• 1960 ASDA New York show - It's on the postcard 2310
• ASDA magazine – 100th Anniversary Issue - It's on the postcard 1748
• 1986 ASDA NY show
• John Luff, a famous philatelist in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. He was instrumental in the establishment of the ASDA - It's on the postcard 1748

The last two stamps are part of the series Endangeres Species (marine life), issued on October 23, 2014. These are the twenty-second set of stamps in UNPA’s multi-year series on Endangered Species. The series was launched in 1993 to highlight the need for the protection of endangered species throughout the world.


The US$ 1.15 stamps depict the following endangered species:
Hippocampus denise (Denise’s pygmy seahorse) - It's on the postcard 1748
Rhincodon typus (Whale shark) - It's on the postcard 2310
Sphyrna lewini (Scalloped hammerhead)
Scleropages formosus (Asian arowana) - It's on the postcard 1862


The CHF 1.40 stamps depict the following endangered species:
Arapaima gigas (Arapaima) - It's on the postcard 1862
Cetorhinus maximus (Basking shark)
Pristis pristis (Largetooth sawfish) - It's on the postcard 1862
Acipenser baerii (Siberian sturgeon)


The € 0.70 stamps depict the following endangered species:
Cheilinus undulatus (Humphead wrasse) - It's on the postcard 1748
Carcharodon carcharias (Great white shark)
Manta birostris (Giant manta ray)
Polyodon spathula (Paddlefish)

On the postcard 1749

On the postcard 1750
The first stamp is part of a series of six stamps named Cultivating Hope / Cultiver L'Espoir / Hoffnung Pflanzen, about which I wrote here. About the second stamp I wrote here. The last stamp is part of the series International Day of Happiness, issued on March 17, 2014.
