1875, 2343 ROMANIA (Braşov) - Roadeş in wintertime

Posted on 05.09.2015, 02.03.2016
Located in the Târnavelor Plateau, at a few km from Viscri, the village of Roadeş (Radeln) was first mentioned in a complaint made by count Jakobus to the voivode of Wallachia, where he protests against the violation of his property by the Saxons from Archiud, Roadeş, Criţ, Meşendorf and Sânmiclăuş. The church in Roadeş was built in the second half of the 14th century, and fortified in 15th century. Roadeş has all the characteristics of the Transylvanian Saxon villages, about which I wrote here. Its name comes from the German verb Roden, "to cut trees".

About the stamp
On the postcard 1875

The stamp, designed by Mihai Vămăşescu, was issued on November 15, 2012, to celebrate the Christmas 2012. In that year, the postage stamp of the issue illustrated the image of the icon having as a topic The Birth of our Lord belonging to the register of religious festivals from the iconostasis of Radu Vodă Monastery in  Bucharest. At the same time, on the lables there may be seen the images of Annunciation and Jesus in the Temple icons, which are part of the same Baroque iconostasis. On this postcard is also one of the two vignette included in the minisheets of eight stamps.

On the postcard 2343
The stamp is one of the two which form the joint issue Romania - Brazil, designed by Mihai Vămăşescu and released on December 18, 2015. It was dedicated to art and implicitly to sculpture, having as theme the female biblical character, Eve. On the two stamps of the issue are illustrated the two Eve works, belonging to Gheorghe Leonida and the Brazilian sculptor Victor Brecheret.
