2155 UNITED STATES (California) - Seaport Village and some skyscrapers in San Diego

Seaport Village is a waterfront shopping and dining complex adjacent to San Diego Bay in downtown San Diego, at the intersection of Harbor Drive and Kettner. It was developed by Morris Taubman on landfill over Punta de los Muertos (Spanish for Point of the Dead), where the Spanish expedition of 1782 buried those who had died of scurvy. It houses more than 70 shops, galleries, and eateries, and contains several freestanding buildings in an assortment of architectural styles, from Victorian to traditional Mexican.

In forefront of the postcard can be seen a simulated lighthouse tower, which houses the Seaport Cookie Company. In background, to the left, is One America Plaza, the tallest building in San Diego (34 storey, 150m tall). The obelisk-shaped tower was designed by Helmut Jahn of Murphy / Jahn Architects and KMA Architecture, and completed in 1991. The top of the building resembles with the end of a Phillips-head screwdriver.

Also in background, but to the center, is Emerald Plaza, the fifth tallest building in San Diego (30 storey, 137m tall), completed in 1990. It has a clustered hexagonal roof, designed by architects C.W. Kim Architects & Planners. It consists of a steel frame structure with an exterior combination of granite stone panels and reflective glass set in a custom Kynar green aluminum window framing system.

About the stamps
The first stamp is part of the series Wedding, about which I wrote here. The second is one of the three issued as part of a civil rights series commemorating courage, strength and equality in America, about which I wrote here.
