Elk Mountain is a northernmost of the Medicine Bow Mountains, a mountain range in the Rocky Mountains that extend for 160km from northern Colorado into southern Wyoming. Lying in the shadow of its 3400m namesake, the settlement of Elk Mountain is a quiet community of cottonwood-lined streets, picturesque buildings, with world class trout fishing right downtown. Much of the historical significance of the Elk Mountain area lies in the development of a transportation network linking the east and west coasts.
About the stamps
The first stamp is part of the series Coastal Birds, designed by Greg Breeding and issued on June 1, 2015. The stamps feature highly stylized, digital portraits of four eye-catching birds:
• Red knot / Calidris canutus
• King eider / Somateria spectabilis - It's on the postcard 2645
• Roseate spoonbill / Platalea ajaja
• Magnificent frigatebird / Fregata magnificens - It's on the postcard 2648
The second and the third stamps are part of the series National Parks (16 stamps), designed by Ethel Kessler and issued on June 02, 2016, to coincide with the centennial of the National Park Service. The series celebrates the more than 400 national parks in the United States - breathtaking vistas and landscapes of unparalleled beauty and also monuments, historic sites, memorials, battlefields, and more.

• Assateague Island National Seashore - It's on the postcard 2645
• Acadia National Park - It's on the postcard 2648
• Carlsbad Caverns National Park - It's on the postcard 2648
The last stamp, depicting the Western Meadowlark and the Indian Paintbrush, which are Wyoming State Bird and Flower, is part of the series State Birds and Flowers, about which I wrote here.
