The Antifa movement in Germany is a political current composed of multiple far-left, autonomous, militant anti-fascist groups and individuals. It has existed in different eras and incarnations, and takes its name from the historical Antifaschistische Aktion, an organisation affiliated with the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) that existed from 1932 to 1933. Antifa committees emerged across Germany after WWII with the involvement of trade unionist, socialist, communist and Christian groups; in the Soviet occupation zone and East Germany these were absorbed into the ruling Socialist Unity Party of Germany and became part of its official apparatus, ideology and language.

3218 INDONESIA (New Guinea) - Morning Star flag
In 1949, the Netherlands recognised Indonesian sovereignty over the Dutch East Indies with the exception of Dutch New Guinea, because Western New Guinea is geographically very different to Indonesia and the people also very ethnically different. A national parliament was elected in 1961 and the Morning Star flag raised on 1 December, with independence planned in 9 years time. In 1962, the Dutch handed over the territory to the United Nations Temporary Executive Authority, until 1963, when Indonesia took control.

2200 FRANCE - The Network No Pasaran
This postcard was issued probably in 2009 by the French Network No Pasaran, and is a (bad) reproduction of a photograph by Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004), a French photographer considered the master of candid photography (Bremen - Lunchtime rest in the shipyards / 1962). He spent more than three decades on assignment for Life and other journals, traveling and documenting some of the great upheavals of the 20th century: the Spanish Civil War, the liberation of Paris in 1944, the 1968 student rebellion in Paris, the fall of the Kuomintang to the communists, the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, the Berlin Wall, and the deserts of Egypt.

1490 NORTH KOREA - Propaganda
North Korea it’s a dictatorship of the most extreme kind, a cult of personality beyond anything Stalin or Mao could have imagined, a country as closed off to the world and as secretive as they come, keeping both the outside world and its own people completely in the dark about one another. I'm Romanian and I grew up under the Ceauşescu regime, so I have a basis for comparison and a good understanding of the functioning of such systems. The cult of personality and the nationalist propaganda are present in all countries led by such regimes, with local nuances, because they are essential to maintain a permanent state of siege and justify the isolation. The countries which have different regimes are invariably considered enemies, and a way of thinking that don't comply the dogmas of the single-party can only be a treason, a collaboration with the enemy.
