0630 ROMANIA (Suceava) - Painted eggs from Moldoviţa

Easter is the most important Christian feast, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary. First Council of Nicaea in 325 established that the "Easter is in the first Sunday after the first full moon which falls on or after the vernal equinox." However, primarily due to the used calendar (but also due to the different algorithms used), Orthodox Christians on the one hand and the Catholics and Protestants on the other, usually celebrate Easter on different days. This year the Catholics and the Protestants have celebrated Easter on March 31, and the Orthodox celebrate it today, on May 5. I'm Romanian, and as most Romanians I'm Orthodox, so today I celebrate the Easter, and this postcard seems to me most appropriate for today.

One of the most important Christian traditional custom on Easter in Romania (but not only) is to break eggs (usually chicken eggs) dyed red, two by two. The egg symbolize the empty tomb of Jesus, is therefore a symbol of the Resurrection, and the red color is related to a legend which tells that Mary had come to mourn his crucified son and placed a basket with eggs near the cross and they were reddened from the blood which dripped from the wounds of Jesus. According to tradition, to the Easter meal every one chooses one red egg and hits the other's egg. The one who hits says "Christ has risen" and the other responds "Truly He has risen." In fact this is the salute used by the Christians on the three days of Easter.

Over time, the painting of the eggs became more and more complex, especially in Eastern and Central Europe, turning first in a craft, and then, in modern times, even in an art. In Romania, especially in northern Moldavia and Transylvania, the tradition of decorating eggs is a very dear custom. One of the best known Romanian artists in this field is Lucia Condrea, member of the Artistic Union of Romania, who exposed her creations in over one hundred exhibitions all around the world and has her own museum of painted eggs in Moldoviţa, Bukovina.  For me this postcard with eggs from this museum is even more precious, since it was sent by the author of the photo, Marius Vasiliu.

  1. Adevărat a înviat, Ana!

Trebuie sa gasesc o alta solutie ca sa ajunga in cutia ta postala.
We shall see...
Sunt tare curioasa insa daca iti va placea...

    4. :) M-ai făcut curios din două motive:
      - ce-o fi oare?
      - cine-o fi prietenul comun?

    5. Give me some good news, Danut. Did the postcards sent from Spain arrived?
For both questions I have a simple answer: you will see at a given moment. I promise you a double surprise! :-)
Or...you could take a guess about who could be this common friend. ;)

    7. Danut,

      “Contact us…
For Holiday World, its clients are the most important thing and, due to this, we want to open up a door to communication.
If you would like to contact a department of Holiday World hotels, contact us by telephone or email at the following addresses and we will answer you as quickly as possible."

Pana in dimineata aceasta, in continuare niciun raspuns.

    9. Continuare (II):

Astazi, dupa ora 14, am primit primul raspuns/e-mail cu subiectul: “The original Easypost”.
“Hi Ana. I am afraid you have used another company. We are not the same company. A similar name but they are not us. We do not have post boxes or sell stamps, as it is illegal in Spain to do so. We have NEVER operated on any of the islands We are based in Los Montesinos, Alicante, and mainly operate in the Alicante and Murcia regions of Spain. The company you need to contact is info@easy-post.es and the telephone number in Madrid is 902200505. They are a Spanish company that have copied our company name, and are under investigation by the Spanish authority that investigate postal services in Spain.I do know that the Spanish Correos have taken them to the Spanish court, because it is illegal to sell stamps and have post boxes in Spain and they were fined 100,000euros. They are also being denounced by Palma De Mallorca for the same thing. I dId not know they were still operating. Best of luck. [numele]”

      a. adresa de e-mail a National Institute of Consumption: inc@consumo-inc.es

      “Dear Ms. …,

First of all, ask our sincere apologies for not having answered before, but it’s the first time that this happens to us, and we had to get information from the postal company to clarify something. Well, after discussing your case with EasyPost which is the contractor, this system explains that her collection is weekly (1 day a week), and in its shipping case occurred on April 23, and since on that date had come and then not collect mail until next week (from April 29 to May 5), in addition, they do not make the shipment but they deliver as intermediaries Unipost company which is what is done, and clarifies that it is not aware that there has been no rejection shipping to Romania or any abnormalities. However, after having claimed to Unipost, it will contact you, and in parallel, we will reimburse you if you please to give us bank account number, the cost of the stamps used.

Again, ask our sincere apologies for what happened, and wanting to clarify what happened to see if we can continue to trust this company services or not, we will contact you.

      Sincerely,

      [numele]
Department of Quality Holiday World Hotels.”

Great! Great news!
