2122 MALAYSIA (Kelantan) - Siti Khadijah Market in Kota Bharu


Located in the northeastern part of Peninsular Malaysia, near the border with ThailandKota Bharu (Malay for New Castle) has colorful traditions and culture and its markets reflects this. Siti Khadijah Market (Pasar besar Siti Khadijah), as its name implies, is a local wet market. Its name after Prophet Muhammad's wife, whom is known for her entrepreneurial skill, as this market is mostly run by women.

Apart from the usual fresh goodies like seafood, vegetables and wide variety of fruits, can be found here ready-to eat food like ayam percik, nasi ulam and a variety of noodle soups, all unique in flavors and taste of Kelantan, served freshly. Are not missing kuih muih (cake sort of), tempeh and hot milk tea, the staple drink for Kelantanese.

About the stamp
The stamp is one of the issued on October 7, 2012 to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the founding of Malacca. Two of Malacca's oldest historical buildings the Cheng Hoon Teng temple and the Masjid Kampung Hulu are featured in the 50 sen and 90 sen denominations respectively.
